The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has awarded a grant to CelPlan Technologies, in collaboration with SYSTRA and Antares, to conduct a feasibility study for the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil. The study aims to revolutionize CPTM’s information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure by integrating big data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
USTDA, an independent U.S. government agency, facilitates economic growth in emerging markets through the funding of infrastructure and energy projects. CelPlan Technologies, a U.S.-based leader in wireless network planning and optimization, will spearhead the project. SYSTRA, a global engineering and consulting group specializing in public transport and mobility solutions, and Antares, a firm focused on energy innovation, will provide additional expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The feasibility study will develop a comprehensive ICT implementation plan for CPTM, which operates a vast passenger rail network serving nearly three million daily riders across 23 municipalities in the S\u00e3o Paulo Metropolitan Area. The project aims to enhance service quality, reduce costs, and improve resource utilization and efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leonhard Korowajczuk, CEO of CelPlan Technologies, stated, “We are honored to lead this transformative project for CPTM. By leveraging cutting-edge ICT solutions, we aim to set new standards for rail operations and passenger experience in one of the world’s largest metropolitan areas.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The study will assess CPTM’s current technical capabilities, define an ICT vision for big data, AI, and IoT integration, and recommend architecture, infrastructure, policies, and organizational structures to support the modernization program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This project exemplifies the power of international collaboration in driving technological advancements in public transportation,” said Paulo Sigrist, from CelPlan’s CellRail Division. “We’re excited to work alongside SYSTRA and Antares to deliver a roadmap that will position CPTM at the forefront of smart rail operations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project kicked off on November 21, 2023, with a strategic alignment meeting at CPTM, followed by site visits to key facilities. This initiative is expected to significantly improve CPTM’s operational safety, capacity, and efficiency while reducing operational and maintenance costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
